PRESENT

Rowley Bottom - Present Day

The railway now has closed too. Part of the trackbed is used as a footpath (shown in green) and there are public rights of way which give access to the Engine Site and the Locks from 11 to 22. Some of the locks from 11 to 15 are in good condition but those from 17 onwards have been infilled with rubbish and most have disappeared from view. A number of other features have survived remarkably well, but these are on private land and must not be visited without permission.
The Somersetshire Coal Canal Society organises visits to many parts of the canal for its members; and these offer the opportunity to see features which would otherwise be inaccessible to the public.
