In 2008 the S.C.C.S. changed its constitution to allow restoration of the canal. At that time there were no specific plans for restoration of the whole canal, but some of the preservation work involved restoring canal structures. The ownership of canal is divided between dozens of private landowners, and without their agreement, restoration would be impossible.
